Pertanian merupakan salah satu sektor yang diunggulkan. Indonesia dikenal sebagai Negara yang sebagian besar penduduknya bermata pencaharian sebagai petani dan merupakan negara yang mempunyai cukup besar sumber daya alam lahan yang masih luas serta sumber daya manusia di Indonesia yang memadai . Sebagian besar lahan di Indonesia dipenuhi dengan tanaman pertanian. Namun beberapa keuntungan tersebut kurang di manfaatkan oleh kalangan masyarakat atau petani,selain karena kurangnya pengetahuan tentang pertanian di kalangan masyarakat,hal tersebut juga diakibatkan karena generasi muda berkualitas zaman sekarang enggan lagi untuk mengelola lahan pertanian.Para generasi muda pada zaman sekarang umumnya berpendapat bahwa sektor pertanian/bekerja pada pertanian adalah pekerjaan yang berat,jorok,dan kemungkinan hasil yang bisa di peroleh kecil. Padahal dengan keadaan yang seperti itu yaitu mempunyai sumber daya alam yang luas dan lahan yang menguntungkan,dapat memberikan berbagai lapangan pekerjaan dan jika generasi muda ingin dan mau meneruskan mengelola pada bidang pembangunan pertanian maka masyarakat akan lebih dapat hasil yang lebih dari sebelumnya,serta dapat merubah masyarakat lebih makmur.
Peran serta generasi muda dalam pembangunan pertanian dapat memberikan hasil yang lebih karena generasi muda memiliki peranan yang cukup besar dalam pembangunan pertanian khususnya di Indonesia.Adapun yang bisa di ketahui peranan para generasi muda dalam pembangunan pertanian antara lain:
1.Generasi muda sangat berpengaruh pada penyebaran informasi(dari sumber informasi kepada berbagai kalangan masyarakat atau petani).
2.Generasi muda yang berpengalaman dan punya ilmu pengetahuan yang lebih dapat memberikan langkah atau cara kepada masyarakat/petani tentang bertani yang benar supaya hasil yang di peroleh dalam pertanian lebih.
3.Dapat membantu atau menggantikan pekerjaan dalam pertanian yang sifatnya berat/keras.
4.Generasi muda yang berkualitas dan lulusan pertanian dapat menghasilkan produk ataupun varietas baru yang selanjutnya diperkenalkan pada masyarakat agar dapat dikembangkan.
Dari berbagai peranan generasi muda dalam pembangunan pertanian tersebut maka para generasi muda cukup besar memegang peranan dalam pembangunan pertanian agar masyarakat dan negara lebih memperoleh hasil yang lebih,serta masyarakat bisa lebih makmur,maka dari itu para generasi muda seharusnya sadar dan mau ikut serta/terjun dalam pembangunan pertanian umtuk dapat lebih membantu/menyebarkan informasi kepada masyarakat atau para petani.
